Julie Murray

Attorney, Public Citizen Litigation Group

Julie Murray is an attorney at Public Citizen Litigation Group, where she has worked since 2011. Her practice areas include administrative law, the First Amendment, civil rights, federal procedure, and open government. In connection with her work, she has been interviewed by print, radio, and television media outlets and has been quoted by the Washington Post, the Washington Times, the Associated Press, Reuters, Politico, and the National Law Journal, among others.

Before joining the Litigation Group, Ms. Murray served as the Margaret Fund Fellow at the National Women’s Law Center in Washington, D.C., where she focused on the rights of women and girls in schools and in the workplace, including under Title VII, Title IX, and the Equal Pay Act. Ms. Murray also clerked for the Honorable Marsha S. Berzon on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and in law school worked on migrant workers’ rights with the Centro de los Derechos del Migrante and the Farmworker Division of Georgia Legal Services, LGBT rights with Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders, and labor and employment issues with the firm of Altshuler Berzon LLP in San Francisco.

Ms. Murray graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where she was an Executive Technical Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. She did quantitative and qualitative research on immigration, education, and family policy at the Urban Institute and the Migration Policy Institute for several years before law school. Ms. Murray earned her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky and was a 2002 Harry S. Truman Scholar.
